Rock-a-bye Baby

A young Grey Seal Pup (Halichoerus grypus) drifts off to sleep against the granite sea defences at Winterton, Norfolk, England. The rocks don’t look like the most comfortable place to sleep but they play a vital role in protecting this important breeding ground from coastal erosion. I like the way that the vulnerability of the pup is contrasted by its powerful fore flipper and claws and the solidity of its granite bed.
