Sanderling Portrait

A Sanderling (Calidris alba) takes a break from its frantic foraging to pose in the surf at Winterton Beach, Norfolk. I love watching these energetic little wading birds as they search the shoreline for marine worms, crustaceans and molluscs. I converted the image to black and white to emphasise the markings on its feathers.
