Frogs and Spawn

Common Frogs (Rana temporaria) at Vinegar Pond on Mousehold Heath, Norwich, England. This is a natural rain filled pond which has suffered in recent years from leakage. As frogs always return to their place of birth to spawn this has caused many tadpoles to die as the pond has reduced to no more than a puddle. In response a clay like substance has been used to line the bottom and it is this that gives the water a tinge of Salmon colour. The frogs are in amplexus, the frog embrace, as the male fertlises the females eggs.
